The E-911 Department at Troup County is staffed by state certified communication officers who receive extensive training on how to correctly and appropriately answer and process 911 calls and non-emergency calls. E-911 communication officers are also trained to communicate with hearing impaired callers by using a Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD), and they are trained to transfer non-English speaking callers to the Language Line Services for interpretation. The E-911 Center answers and dispatches for all 911 and non-emergency calls for the areas of unincorporated Troup County, the City of LaGrange, and the City of Hogansville.
Over the years, the department has received an upgraded radio system, computer aided dispatch system and an enhanced mapping system designed to pinpoint the specific location of each call. In 2018, as the first bonded SPLOST V project, the department upgraded to a new phone system that will enhance the 911 caller user experience by providing improved wireless call tracking through immediate location tracing software and upgraded call recording technology for instant playback capabilities to help with call transfers. It also allows for the ability to provide more available dispatchers than ever before when call volume is high through additional receiver upgrades. The upgraded system also enables Text-to-911 and Next Generation 911 capabilities, which is essential in future plans for the county, and it provides more extensive back-up capabilities, such as enhanced IP support that will enable instant call transfers in the case of an emergency or natural disaster where temporary relocation of 911 phone lines is necessary.
